Synopsis
In the days of '49, Doctor Lambert, a preacher and medical man, comes to the mining camp of Arapahoe Flats to fight the devil and help the ailing. His wife Mary, who did not want to come West, feels lonesome when Lambert devotes all his time to the miners. Upon becoming pregnant, Mary prepares to go to her mother's home, but after Lambert saves the life of Clean-Up West, a gambler shot during a card game, West persuades Mary to elope. When he abandons her, she returns to the camp and dies giving birth. Lambert, now deranged, puts the baby on a doorstep and leaves, vowing hatred for God and man. Fifteen years later, Lambert, now a drunkard, returns. After Lily Sawyer, a dancer at a hotel, befriends Lambert's injured dog, Lambert grows to admire her open manner, and rescues her from another drunkard. When West returns and tries to abduct Lily while her sweetheart, Frank Baxter, is away, West's consort, Faro Fanny, recognizes Lambert and tells him that Lily is his daughter. Lambert kills West and his faith and sanity return.
