Synopsis
Shortly after the funeral of her wealthy older husband, Mimi learns that he maintained a luxurious, secret apartment equipped for the gratification of his unusual sexual desires. In the mirrored trysting place she finds several stag movies, including one of her best friend, Claudia, and a notebook in which her husband rated his sexual partners. Her initial anger turns to curiosity, and she decides to explore the range of sexual possibilities for herself, appropriating the apartment. After broadening her knowledge by reading Krafft-Ebing's Psychopathia Sexualis , she systematically seduces her husband's business partner, her dentist, her tennis coach, Claudia's husband, a motorist who mistakes her for a prostitute, and a sadistic stranger. Despite the diversity of her escapades, she finds little satisfaction and succeeds only in jeopardizing her health. During a medical checkup, she sprains her ankle. A nearsighted radiologist, Dr. De Marchi, carries her, half naked, on his shoulders, thus unwittingly gratifying a fetish which gives Mimi intense pleasure. Captivated by the doctor's shyness, Mimi poses as a medical student and eventually gets him to invite her on an archeological weekend. Mimi easily seduces him, but she is shocked when he later asks her to marry him. Determined to prove her lack of moral scruples, Mimi shows De Marchi filmed records of her "experimentation," and she even disrobes in public, but she is unable to dissuade him from the idea of matrimony. As she returns to the mirrored apartment, the memories of her adventures exacerbate her desire for sexual freedom. De Marchi loses his temper, destroys the entire love nest, and implores her to settle down with him. Initially she refuses, but finally she acquiesces; and on their wedding night De Marchi assuages her guilt feelings about the fetish which gives her such pleasure and takes her for an extended erotic "pony ride."
