Synopsis

In 1675, Polly is sent from a British prison with 12 other women prisoners to be sold into slavery in the New World. They are herded aboard the Albatross along with a secret load of convicts, including Dr. Bradley, a political prisoner. Also on board as passengers are Lord and Lady Gaveston, and a young brother and sister, Anna and Dick. En route to America, Polly and the other women prisoners free the convicts, and Dr. Bradley and a cutthroat, Calico Jack, assume leadership of the vessel. The prisoners murder many of the crew, and Calico Jack forces his attentions on Lady Gaveston, who afterwards kills herself. Meanwhile Dr. Bradley becomes attracted to Anna and shelters her. Encountering a storm, the ship founders, and Dr. Bradley is instrumental in restoring Captain Cooper to the helm. As mutiny is punishable by death in America, the convicts decide to change the ship's course, imprisoning the captain and Dr. Bradley when they resist. Calico Jack plans to throw the women prisoners overboard to conserve dwindling rations, but Polly and the other women free Captain Cooper and Dr. Bradley and battle the convicts. Polly signals a passing English warship in spite of the punishment she faces. As the British board the ship, the captain helps Polly and Dr. Bradley to regain their freedom in return for their aid, and Dr. Bradley looks forward to a new life with Anna. [Publicity material refers to Anna as Lord and Lady Gaveston's daughter and omits mention of a romance between Anna and Dr. Bradley.]
