Synopsis
Sam Howard and Bill Driscoll, a harmless yet dimwitted pair, kidnap the rambunctious nine-year-old Andy, the richest kid in town. Andy dreams of being his favorite fictional character -- Red Chief, the Indian warrior. When the somewhat rowdy lad is kidnapped by the down-on-their-luck hobos, he pretends that he is Red Chief. The kidnappers' plans go awry when Andy's father, Ambrose Dorset, the town banker, informs the unfortunate duo that he wants to be paid to take Andy off their hands. Matters become more complicated when two escaped convicts figure out that they, too, can hold the boy for ransom, but must first do away with the kidnappers.
