Synopsis
Chronicles burlesque's journey from 1868 when it arrived in New York from England to the 1960's when entrepreneurs relied on the strip tease in a last-ditch attempt to keep this theatrical tradition alive. The program also covers the revivals going on today across the country and examines the influence burlesque has had on generations of comedians and performers today. The program is a tribute to the origins of classic comedy sketches and jokes, as well as a tribute to the men and women of burlesque who were trailblazers for so many of the performers who have starred in sitcoms and movies ever since.
