Synopsis

Gladwyn and Larry Ritchie lead a hard life as palm tree farmers in the Australian outback. They struggle daily with the elements and the bank to keep a roof over their heads and feed their three children, Pearl, Opal and Jasper. Despite the hardships, they are a closeknit family until a letter arrives one day. Larry's first wife has died of cancer and his 15-year-old daughter, Lara, is coming to live with them. Gladwyn is against Lara's joining the family. She is threatened by Larry's memories of his former life. When Lara arrives, she immediately senses that she is unwelcome by all but 8-year-old Opal and a stray Dingo dog that she names Thunderwith.
