Synopsis

After the death of their mother, 13-year-old Kelly and her 10-year-old sister Chris are sent to live with their father Charlie "Mac" McClain. Mac has been living the life of a rough-hewn cowboy and has barely seen his two daughters since he divorced their mother. The girls, saddened by their mother's death, are stunned when they are forced to move into Mac's home, a small bunkhouse with no television and no washing machine. Their Aunt Gayle adamantly objects to the situation and wants the girls to live with her. But they must stay with Mac, at least temporarily. As a condition of the custody arrangement, the court has assigned a family counselor, Susan Shaw, who helps them relate to one another in small ways.
