Synopsis

Television movie based on Owen Wister's novel about love and justice in the old West. The Virginian is a man who has left his native state to test his fortunes in the new territories of the West. In Wyoming, he falls in love with Molly Stark, a schoolteacher who has recently moved from Vermont. Despite their bond, she takes a stand against the vigilante violence that is practiced by the Virginian and other men in the emerging West. The Virginian's desire to improve his station and be a success in Molly's eyes leads him to accept the job of foreman at a giant cattle ranch. When he is betrayed by his best friend, the Virginian is forced to protect the ranch against a rival, jeopardizing his relationship with Molly and his life.
