Synopsis
Having acquired the rights to Abner Audubon Peacock's financially troubled journal of ornithology, convicted pornographer Osborn Tremain promptly sends its editor on a research trip to South America and transforms the publication into a girlie magazine. When Peacock returns, he discovers himself the object of a lawsuit. Because of his attorney's eloquent defense the editor is acquitted and hailed by the press as a champion of free speech and harbinger of the sexual revolution. Actually, Peacock is a virgin, long affianced to Rose Ellen Wilkerson, the chaste daughter of a minister. Despite his inexperience, Peacock's image is embellished by liberated coeditor Lisa LaMonica, who installs the shy birdwatcher in a penthouse and equips him with an entourage of voluptuous "Pussycats." Alarmed, Rose Ellen's father insists that Peacock call a press conference to proclaim his virginity. Fearing consequent loss of circulation, the coeditor encourages the abstemious ornithologist to become intoxicated. When Peacock awakens and espies Lisa's bra hanging from the chandelier he assumes the worst. Shocked, the honorable Peacock promises to marry Lisa immediately. He insists, however, that the ambitious editor give up her job. During the ceremony Lisa gratefully defers to Rose Ellen, who takes her place at Peacock's side.
