Cast & Crew
In 1999, two teenagers - Shawn Fanning and Sean Parker - launched the file-sharing service Napster, thus taking a previously underground medium for distributing music into the mainstream. In the process, they sparked a revolution that would make a lasting, dramatic impact on how people buy, share and listen to music.
MTV originally developed the project as a two hour television movie in 2002, but changed course in 2004 to develop the project as a feature film. The project was eventually put into turnaround. When Winter decided to approach the subject in a documentary format, he pitched it to VH1, which produced it as part of its VH1 Rock Docs franchise.
