Biography
A cinematographer who primarily works in television, Rodney Charters got his start in the late 1980s on such brand-name horror projects as the eerie "Friday the 13th" series and the fever-dream-like TV-movie prequel "Psycho IV: The Beginning." In the 1992 Stephen King-based creeper "Sleepwalkers," Charters channeled the author and captured the autumnal and vaguely dread-filled palette of a small town with a secret. However, since much of his TV work aims for kinetic action, the episodes he shoots for such series as "The Pretender" and the genetic-engineering fantasy "Dollhouse" are often marked by electrifying neons, cool temperatures, and a metallic sheen. In particular, the cinematographer's over-the-top action series "24" showcases textures and colors that truly pop and sizzle. In addition to lensing movies and TV shows, Charters also occasionally directs. In fact, even though he helmed an episode of the Kevin Sorbo-starring series "Hercules: Legend Continues," he did not have anything to do with the photography of a Sorbo project until he shot the feature-length fantasy film "Kull the Conquerer" (1997).
