Woodward's acting career began mostly with his roles in various films, such as the adaptation "Galileo" (1974) with Topol, the drama "The Europeans" (1979) with Lee Remick and "King David" (1985) with Richard Gere. He also appeared in the dramatic adaptation "Salome" (1986) with Tomas Milian and the Julie Walters comedy "Personal Services" (1987). He had an early role on the television special "The File on Jill Hatch" (PBS, 1982-83). He continued to act in productions like "Closing Numbers" (1994), "The Scarlet Letter" (1995) with Demi Moore and "Some Mother's Son" (1996). He also appeared in the crime drama "The James Gang" (1998) with John Hannah. He also had a part in the TV miniseries "Vanity Fair" (1999-2000). Most recently, Woodward acted in the crime thriller "Legend" (2015) with Tom Hardy.
