Biography

Oliver Wood, one of Hollywood's premier action cinematographers, is best known for his collaboration with director Paul Greengrass on the three "Bourne" films. It is apparent in the evolution of the visuals throughout the action-packed trilogy, from "The Bourne Identity" (2002) to "The Bourne Supremacy" (2004) to "The Bourne Ultimatum" (2007), that the look of the films improved as Greengrass gave Wood increasing freedom with his lens. Wood and his crew traveled all over the world to shoot incredibly dense, hectic set-pieces for Matt Damon to plow through as the dogged Jason Bourne, an amnesiac spy desperate to discover his past and determine his own future. Oliver Wood has shown equal adeptness with large-scale outdoor action scenes (e.g., "The Bourne Ultimatum"'s adrenaline-pounding rooftop chase in Morocco) and close-quarters, indoor action scenes (e.g., "The Bourne Identity"'s climactic stairwell shoot-out). His ability to fashion crowded but comprehensible action in tight, even claustrophobic spaces is also on display in the submarine thriller "U-571." Wood worked with director Jonathan Mostow on "U-571," and again on "Surrogates," in which Wood was able to lend his gritty realism to a science fiction yarn. "The Surrogates" also gave Wood the opportunity to work again with action star Bruce Willis. Wood shot Willis in "Die Hard 2" as John McClane, the heroic under-dog who, as the title suggests, just won't die no matter what Wood and director Renny Harlin throw at him.

Honeymoon Killers, The (1969) - Not A Motel Room! The grim, low budget opening, the first two interior shots said to have been directed by the soon-fired (for working too slowly) Martin Scorsese, introducing Shirley Stoler as nurse Martha, with neighbor and mother (Doris Roberts, Dortha Duckworth), in the semi-legendary The Honeymoon Killers, 1969.
Honeymoon Killers, The (1969) - I Want You To Call Me Ray Cutting from Martha (Shirley Stoler) in Mobile, beginning her first letter to the lonely-hearts service, we meet Raymond (Tony Lo Bianco) in New York, beginning their correspondence, in The Honeymoon Killers, 1969, written and directed by Leonard Kastle.
Honeymoon Killers, The (1969) - Now That You Know Everything Arriving from Mobile at her own insistence in New York, Martha (Shirley Stoler) causes Raymond (Tony Lo Bianco) to admit his scam then, unbowed, returns to confront her supervisor (Guy Sorel), to whom she then lies, in writer-director Leonard Kastle's fact-based The Honeymoon Killers, 1969.
Alphabet City (1984) - That's Julio Iglesias Rising gangster Johnny (Vincent Spano) has been making the rounds of the East Village, Manhattan neighborhood for which the movie is named, now introducing his mother (Zohra Lampert) and sister (Jami Gertz), in director Amos Poe's Alphabet City, 1984.
Alphabet City (1984) - You're Getting Bigger Pop overtones in the opening of punk music-movie director Amos Poe's foray toward the mainstream, introducing Vincent Spano as gangster and dad Johnny, Kate Vernon his girlfriend, soundtrack by Nile Rodgers, in Alphabet City, 1984.
Alphabet City (1984) - You Gotta Kick! Junior gangster Johnny (Vincent Spano) and, as emerges in their conversation, partner, Lippy (Michael Winslow), safe but frightened in the aftermath of the slightly surreal police raid on the heroin hide-out they supplied, in director Amos Poe's Alphabet City, 1984.
