Les Miserables (1934) - She's Saving Herself Departing for the first time from the story of the protagonist Valjean, director Raymond Bernard introduces Fantine (the French actress Florelle), herself pursued by Felix (Roland Amontel)in Paris, 1815, in the acclaimed 1934 production of Victor Hugo's Les Miserables.

Madeleine (Harry Baur) saves the day, even as he's recognized by inspector Javert (Charles Vanel), in director Raymond Bernard's 1934 version of Victor Hugo's Les Miserables.
