Silent Sunday Nights

A fixture of TCM's programming from the beginning, when Buster Keaton's The Cameraman (1928) aired on April 17, 1994, Silent Sunday Nights offers iconic movies from the silent era as well as forgotten gems and international classics. Author David Pierce has concluded that only 26% of American silent features survive in complete form, and TCM is dedicated to showcasing the films of this important era as part of our cultural heritage.

On September 15, 2019, author, archivist and scholar Jacqueline Stewart joined TCM as the host of Silent Sunday Nights. Stewart, a passionate advocate for film preservation, has served three terms on the National Film Preservation Board (NFPB), which advises the Library of Congress on preservation policy. Currently the Chair of the NFPB Diversity Task Force, she works to ensure that the films chosen for the National Film Registry reflect diversity and inclusion. Stewart is a professor in the Department of Cinema and Media Studies at the University of Chicago, specializing in the history of African-American cinema.
