Ben Mankiewicz - TCM's Weekend Daytime Host
|
Ben Mankiewicz, scion of one of Hollywood's legendary families, has joined TCM as the new weekend daytime host of the network, providing viewers with information on the films beginning Saturday, Sept. 6, airing from 12-8 p.m. and Sunday 12-6 p.m.
Ben is the grandson of writer Herman Mankiewicz and great-nephew of director Joseph L. Mankiewicz, who between them wrote and directed such films as Citizen Kane (1941), All About Eve (1950), Guys and Dolls (1955), The Pride of the Yankees (1942), Dinner at Eight (1933) andCleopatra (1963).
"This is absolutely the best job," said Mankiewicz. "If I'd been asked to invent a TV job, this would be it. I love movies, and getting the chance to tell stories about movies to an audience of people who love movies is the perfect opportunity."
Prior to joining TCM, Mankiewicz hosted the news magazine show The Times for WAMI-TV in Miami and he continues to host his satellite radio show, "The Young Turks," on Sirius Satellite Radio.
"We're happy to announce Ben as our new weekend anchor," said Tom Karsch, executive vice president and general manager, TCM. "He will bring a fresh perspective to the network during a time when a lot of people are sampling the channel."
Robert Osborne, the prime-time host of TCM, will still introduce films every evening.
