Tommy "Tiny" Lester Profile
|
|
|
Tommy “Tiny” Lister has parlayed a background in professional wrestling into a career as a character actor in films and television, using his
muscular 6’5” frame and imposing demeanor to convincingly play a series of gangsters, bodyguards and soldiers of fortune. Born in Compton,
CA, in 1958, Lister made his movie debut as a prison guard in Runaway Train (1985) and rose to fame as the “unfazable monster” Zeus
in No Holds Barred (1989), a wrestling movie starring Hulk Hogan, whom Lister later challenged in a series of real-life wrestling events.
Since his acting debut, Lister has been consistently busy in films, television and videos. He may be best remembered as Deebo in Ice
Cube’s films Friday (1995) and Next Friday (2000). Among his many other credits are Mario Van Peeble’s Posse (1993), Quentin Tarantino’s
Jackie Brown (1997) and The Dark Knight (2008).
Lister, who says that watching Westerns on television as a youth helped him form his goals in life, includes three Western adventures in his
programming picks: Angel and the Badman (1947), Shane (1953) and The Professionals (1966). For variety, Lister – who has ventured
into onscreen comedy with Adam Sandler and Mike Myers – also chooses Frank Capra’s screwball classic It Happened One Night (1934).
