Starring Charlton Heston
Our tribute to the Illinois-born actor includes an early role in the romantic melodrama Ruby Gentry (1952), in which Heston plays a privileged Southerner who becomes embroiled with a young woman from the wrong side of the tracks (Jennifer Jones). Also showing are two thrillers, Skyjacked (1972), an action-adventure film in which Heston is the captain of a highjacked airliner; and Soylent Green (1973), a futuristic sci-fi story in which he's a detective uncovering the truth about a mysterious food source for a starving population.
Heston's epic roles are represented by The Agony and the Ecstasy (1965), in which he plays Michelangelo; and 55 Days at Peking (1963), as the American commander of international soldiers during the Boxer Rebellion of 1900.
This month at the TCM Classic Film Festival, Heston will be honored with a ceremony in which the U.S. Postal Service will dedicate a stamp celebrating his career, the 18th in the "Legends of Hollywood" series.
