Milestone Films Introduction

Dennis Doros and Amy Heller started Milestone Films in 1990 and dedicated themselves to discovering and distributing films of enduring artistry from both yesterday and today - films that they loved and wanted to share. Their collection now ranges from the earliest days of the cinema, to the golden age of the silents, to the postwar foreign film renaissance, to brand-new American independent features, documentaries and foreign films.

Some of the films that they have had the privilege of distributing are by such masters of cinema as Alfred Hitchcock, Hiroshi Teshigahara, Luchino Visconti, Pier Paolo Pasolini, F.W. Murnau, Orson Welles, and Luis Bunuel. Others are the work of some of the best directors working today, including Takeshi Kitano, Jane Campion, Hirokazu Kore-eda, Alan Berliner and Philip Haas.

This 20th anniversary salute to their film distribution company includes some of their most popular and personal favorites such as the groundbreaking documentary Word is Out: Stories of Some of Our Lives (1977) and the 1930 mystery The Bat Whispers.
