Delightful and Stupid

Fred and Ginger are probably the finest ever all-around dance team. This was, perhaps, the beautiful Ginger's cutest role. She should have received top billing. While the film is definately a keeper, the play, is incredibly stupid and reflects a total ignorance of psychiatry and hypnotism.

Another Great Movie

What can anyone say about Fred and Ginger? Even while writing this review, I'm trying to find the words. The only one I can come up with is AWESOME!. My favorite scene is "The Yam" especially when Ginger vaults over Fred's leg at the climax of the song. I'll digress for the moment because this question plagues me. But why does Ralph Bellamy lose his girl all the time? Anyway for you Fred and Ginger fans out there, though this movie was not as successful as their earlier ones, it's still a great movie to add to your collection.

Far Ahead of Its Time

Yet again I disagree with the professional critics....regarding the value of this film. This is was the first direct assault...by comedy...of psychoanalysis, then the absolute rage in Hollywood, and today held in such low regard. The film is prescient. I find the performances of Astaire and Rogers and the supporting cast to be excellent. The only negative, is that I found the telephone sequence to be a bit too long and high-school-prankish....but, then, like Fred, I do have a tolerance for a bit of corniness. I think the "Yam" dance was especially alive and energetic....and the "Change Partners" dance extraordinarily beautiful, elegant, and graceful. Ginger Rogers is especially supple, relaxed, and completely at ease with her partner. To my mind, this dance underlines the truth that, she had grown so much as a dancer...as Fred said towards the end of his life.....that every other partner he ever danced with "just looked wrong".

My Favorite Fred & Ginger Movie

It's not one you hear of often, but I think Carefree is one of the most enjoyable Fred & Ginger films. It definitely is the funniest. I love the scene wher Ginger's character, who is not herself after being hypnotized, does her best to ruin everything she sees. The featured dance of the film is "The Yam." A very fun movie experience!
