  • Great rarely Shown action film from the 1970s

When Eight Bells Toll is a wonderful old fashioned Spy film based on the novel of the same name by Alistair MacLean. Mr. MacLean also wrote the screenplay for the film. The film also features an early screen performance By a YOUNG Anthony Hopkins as Philip Calvert, the main character. For the time it was made it's a very fast paced action filled movie! It also has a wonderful performance from Roger Morley as Calvert's Boss. Since it was made in the 70s modern audiences may find it a little dated, but all in all it still holds up well and crackles with action and suspense. Unfortunately most broadcasters never show it anymore so it remains largely a forgotten film. I hope TCM decides to air it sometime soon. It also is LONG OVERDUE for a DVD release that can be played on region 1 DVD players (USA).
