  • Great old movie!

Outstanding old movie from the golden age and year of 1939. Acting often strained but small price to pay for a perspective of a century ago ( more actually). Well, we are now out of the dark ages here for well over 100 years but still are suffering thanks to the twisted ideals of other countries and peoples clinging to the past for their own greed.

  • Upbeat and Enjoyable!

Revealing movie pertaining to slavery and southern culture. Wonderful singing, especially by Bobby Breen who sings absolutely beautifully. Good portrayal of oldtime New Orleans. Exciting plot. Very enjoyable.

Interesting film, a great score and some wonderful singing. Historically significant, good art direction and an interesting plot. Well done. It's unfortunate another user on this site skewered the average rating on this by giving it all "1" ratings. The score was nominated for an Oscar, thats was certainly not a 1.

  • Hideous!

Certainly one of the worst films I ever saw. Bobby Breen should have been shot. Written by Clarence Muse and Langston Hughes, both taltentless script writers. Pure drivel.
