    The first film from Bergman to win an Oscar for Best Foreign language Film. A knight avenges his daughter's rape & murder against three sheep-herder's. At times, it's too broody, but it's also gripping in it's themes of faith & revenge in medieval Sweden. So engaging is it's story that Wes Craven was inspired to make a more brutal & graphic version of this story called "The Last House on the Left." I give it a 4/5.
