i feel this movie should be boycotted.anyone making money off this movie should be ashamed of themselves.the abuse on those gorgeous beautiful horses makes so many people sad, angry and really in disbelief that this movie is still making money.

I love this movie, but just noticed the terrible falls some of the horses take in this film. As an animal lover, I know this was made prior to a lot of the Humane Society protection was in place, but it bothered me as I watched the film today.

  • Last Scene Horse Trip Wire Stunt?

    • Michael Walsh
    • 12/27/08

The last part of the movie has a scene where Valdez is riding between Two horses to apparently shield Gay Erin. Segundo fires at the Two horses and it appears as if he has killed them both when in actuality a Trip wire was used to dislodge both horses.Gay Erin was initially riding parallel, and to the left side of Valdez as the shooting commenced and then she mysteriously is riding at a right angle to Valdezs left side while at the same time riding directly into him ? Movie Magic? Animal Abuse and Cruelty? Appreciate feedback and comments. Thanks

Hello,Correction:The double for Gay Erin ( Susan Clark) rode directly into Valdez from his Left Side with a Running Trip Wire used to Trip the Horses!Animal Abuse did occur! In retrospect I would still like to see how this Stunt was performed?Thank you.

Hello,This is an excellent movie and most definitley a collectors item. I have been unable to obtain a behind the scenes format to see how the Horse shooting stunt was accomplished towards the end of the movie? I believe that a Gay Erin double was used for this stunt with her riding directly into Valdez from his right side which still puzzles me as they were both riding parallel to each other prior to Segundo shooting the horses? Was this Trick photography or was Animal Cruelty involved ?Thank you.

  • Burt Lancaster at his best.

I feel this movie was excellent. It showed the versatility of Burt Lancaster as he played the role of the local Mexican American token sheriff in a small town. The movie is a classic in the same vein as Hombre, and The Professionals. Pushed to his limits the local sheriff draws on his military background to get a local big money rancher/gun runner to fork up $100 to pay to the widow of a man killed by the actions of the rancher, but at the hands of Valdez. The ending of the movie is quite good with a twist to keep you watching. It is well worth a viewing.
