When Bart Kane's gang terrorizes the citizens of Mesquite, Sheriff Tate decides to ask his old friend Tim Carson, a famous ranger, to leave retirement in the city and help him. Disguised as the Mexican bandit "El Voltage," meaning "The Vulture," Tim becomes friendly with Kane and is considered for membership in the gang. As himself, Tim sees a rancher named Brown about to be horsewhipped by the gang and intercedes, saving Brown and attracting Brown's daughter Nancy. Soon Kate, the owner of a local dance hall, recognizes Tim in his El Voltage disguise, but keeps silent becuse she loves him. After Kane's plans are thwarted several times, Kane tells El Voltage to kill Tim Carson. El Voltage accepts the money for "Tim's" murder, but Kate, jealous of Tim's attentions to Nancy, tells Kane El Voltage's true identity, and Tim is wounded by a member of the gang. Determined to testify at the trial of one of Kane's men for murder, Tim meets Kane on the way to court. Though Kane tries to kill him, Tim is saved by a remorseful Kate who spoils the outlaw's aim. In a shootout, Kane is killed by Tim, thus bringing peace back to Mesquite. With his job done, Tim then returns to the city.
