  • Good but sad film

I saw this movie for the first time, two months ago. It was quite well made. The only thing is it didn't have the happy ending I (and possibly viewers) were hoping for. I would've liked to have rather seen justice done for the young girl who is the main character in this movie. Having been a product of rape, this movie hit close to home. Yes, this movie is good. But not for the reasons you might think. It is good because it is all too real. Here's a director who sought to branch out from the typical happy and giddy films of the 60s and do something different. Something with depth and substance. Kudos to him for doing that. It is good because it is powerful and thought-provoking. This is not a feel-good film, this is a film that grabs you. It stays with you a long time. It makes you think. I liked the film for those reasons and more. It is good, but it is sad. Those hoping for a happy-ever-after will be sorely disappointed.

not a great film, but not a bad on either, reminds me a little bit of Paths of Glory in the military style proceedings, but what is different is how the top brass bend over backwards to please the local citizens.it's as much about life in a small town and petty jealousy as it is of the trial itself

  • A Gripping Courtroom Drama

I watched this movie, having heard nothing about it, as a curiosity - I was in for a surprise! This is a serious, gripping and gritty court room drama. The acting, by a mixed American and German cast, is superb. Kirk Douglas is terrific and Christine Kaufmann is marvelous and entirely convincing in her role as the victim. The film is shot in Germany which presents a very interesting backdrop. I could have done without the frequent playing of the 'A Town Without Pity' song, but that can be ignored. Highly recommended.

  • Not A Pretty Movie

This movie has always bothered me...made me ill in fact...the girl - the victim - is made to look cheap, dishonest, someone with a "past" already. The crime of rape is overlooked. She is on trial. Kirk Douglas' acting is very good, yes, almost too convincing as someone bent on destroying another's life in order to savethe guilty. What is so sad about this is that rape victims are all too often, in court, the object of prosecution. That does not seem to change much over the years.

  • town without pity and the truth

this drama shows the expense of winning in court. one can fight for their personal idea of truth , thereby punishing those who disagree with their perception of justice and truth while each persona has tragic human flaws that when brought to light begs pity. this drama depicts the perception of injustice better than could be stated in any other way. It also depicts the expense of attempts to correct injustices. acting ,charactors, and storyline are supurb . forgiving is not visited
