A working title for this film was Torchy in Chinatown. Although the film's title card reads: "Based on the characters created by Frederick Nebel," modern sources call the film a remake of the 1930 First National film Murder Will Out (see AFI Catalog of Feature Films, 1921-30; F2.3730), which was based on the short story "The Purple Hierogplyph" by Will Jenkins in Snappy Stories (1 March 1920). The plots of the two films are very similar. Hollywood Reporter production charts list Joe Cunningham in the cast, but his appearance in the released film has not been confirmed.
