If you are into complicated imbroglios with lots of tension and mind numbing plot tangles or deadly serious attempts to change the world, you won't care for this. It's not "meaty." Ever heard of salad or vegetables? How about dessert? It's farcical, absurd, silly and mainly - great fun. Every time I hear something creaking in the background, I think about that creaky laundry cart coming down the hall to collect one of the girls. It's hilarious. The overblown part is part of the comedy. It moves so fast, if you don't like a part, you don't have to wait long to be taken to another. The young Mary Tyler Moore is a treat to find in this. Julie is perfect. Carol Channing is overstated by persona. Very alive picture. Ahh, relax. Life requires more than rocket science.

I'm so very sorry to those who love this movie, but I just don't care for this film. The acting is fine, but it's just a little too "cutesy" for me. Simply put, there is way too much mugging for the camera and song and dance numbers, for a film with such a razor thin plot. There's just no meat to it.

  • Funny, Charming, and "Thoroughly" enjoyable.

The Sound of Music got all the press and this delightful musical went practically unnoticed. Ok, maybe it's not in the same 'majestic' league as SoM but I actually prefer Thoroughly Modern Millie for the inspired casting, acting, costumes and just plain old watch-ability. It's just a silly little light hearted story but there is not a scene or song that leaves you wishing they had edited that one out. Don't miss this one if you ever have the chance to see it. In fact, if you like musicals and comedy, just buy the DVD. You won't be sorry.

  • Read! You shouldn't miss this.

Dear TCM,I have never seen this movie, Thouroughly Modern Millie but I desperatly want to. I adore anything with Julie Andrews. My Drama teacher wants me to be cultural, which I am more than a whole many others but anyway. I devour TCM like chocolate, I love all of the classics. This movie has Julie Andrews! Not to mention Carol Channing! Please think of taking the time to fit this in your schedule. I'd appreciate it very much. I would love TCM all the more!(if it's possible) Thank you TCM!!!! Sincerely yours, Jess
