This is one of the greats, in that goofy 1950's kind of way. (And, yes, I'm old enough to have been there when this stuff was taken VERY seriously.) It was eclipsed in no time by "Forbidden Planet", otherwise this one would probaby be better-known today. It's relentlessly fake, of course, but so over-the-top that it gives you that giddy thrill you get from the best carnival rides. The two leads, Rex Reason and Faith Domergue, are equally fake, like Ken and Barbie Go To The Actor's Studio, but that's a plus, not a minus. In the 50's, it was all about who had the coolest-looking monsters, and this one is iconic, like The Creature From The Black Lagoon, only in outer space. The monster and the stars are both movie-poster-ready, and the various posters for this baby do not disappoint. It's a lot of nonsense in the guise of science, but isn't that THE prerequisite for this genre? What kid wouldn't love the fun of discovering what's up with those guys with the big heads? It's cheese all the way, but the finest; nothing Velveeta about this flick.

I grew up in New England and saw this movie in the theater. I never believed I would own a DVD that I could watch again and again. Totally awesome movie that is timeless.

This Island Earth is a classic sci-fi film and one of the best ever made. It's much better than the junk sci-fi produced today.

Excellent classic sci-fi. Well acted, good story line. Excellent special effects for it's time. A must see! Certainly NOT MST3K material!
