FULL SYNOPSIS

powered by AFI

Boxer Jimmy Nolan receives news of his mother's death just before a big fight, and consequently loses the match. Despite an injury to his arm, Jimmy leaves immediately after the fight to be with his sister, Mary. After an absence Jimmy returns with Mary, but is unable to fight because his arm healed improperly. Jimmy gets a job as assistant manager at Jerry Filmore's Club Royale and falls in love with the lead dancer, Adele, who is involved with Filmore. Jimmy befriends Ralph the ticket-taker, who is also Adele's brother. When Filmore fights with Adele, Jimmy intervenes and almost loses his job. One night, Ralph pockets $500 and asks Jimmy to watch the register for a few minutes. At the end of the evening, Ralph reports the missing money and after a search, a policeman finds it in Jimmy's pocket and arrests him. Adele visits Jimmy in jail every week. In the meantime, Ralph and Mary have fallen in love. Finally, Ralph confesses to Adele that he owed Filmore $1,000 and framed Jimmy at Filmore's orders. Adele plans revenge and invites Filmore over one night, but Jimmy shows up unexpectedly, having received time off for good behavior. Adele leaves with Filmore and Jimmy is heartbroken. Ralph and Mary arrive home and Ralph confesses to Jimmy, telling him of Adele's plan for revenge. Jimmy arranges to fight Sailor King and wins $1,000 from the match. He returns to Club Royale and gives Filmore the money, thereby clearing Ralph's debt. A fight ensues between Jimmy and Filmore and his bouncers until the police arrive and arrest Filmore and his men. Jimmy promises Adele he will not fight again until after they are married.
