That Touch of Mink
Doris Day and Cary Grant are a gorgeous looking couple. This is an adorable movie. Gig Young steals the show. He is hilarious. The end of the movie is very sweet and funny. Watch it and laugh.
One of My Favorites
This film has a lot going for it other than the plot. If you've ever wondered what a New York City Auto Mat was like before they all disappeared, including behind the scenes food prep, well, you can find out. Also, if you're a N. Y. Yankees fan, well this movie has Yogi Berra, Roger Maris and Mickey Mantle in cameos. If you are a fashionista, Doris's clothes will astound you. Dennis Basso takes credit for designing mink-lined coats, but he wasn't the first, as this film proves. If you've ever wondered about Freudian psychoanalysis, this film will give you a taste. If you like old gas stations and 1950's cars, there's plenty of them to enjoy. Also, there are scenes involving the original Univac computer system, with punch cards, which Doris manages to use to cause chaos. Oh, and then there's the plot and characters, too. Gig Young is wonderful as the neurotic assistant to Cary Grant, debonair as usual, who plays a wealthy executive who meets Doris's character by accident when his limo splashes her on her way to a job interview. There is strong mutual attraction, but Cary is used to sexually-free women, which Doris is not. Then there is the scene in a N.J. motel involving mistaken identity, where a blonde librarian is on her honeymoon with her shy husband, only to have Cary Grant and Gig Young burst into their room demanding to see his wife. The ending is hilarious, too. Very much worth seeing.
It's all about the costumes...!
Not really much of a movie...Doris Day, the eternal virgin, protecting her purity, very wink-wink and s****ing, but a good look at the hypocritical sexual mores of the '60's...not even very funny, either....but if you are into fashion of the highest class and taste, style that lasts, check out the fabulous clothing by Norell. Not too many designers did it better...!
A convential romance of opposites
- Mr. Blandings
An uncomfortable-looking Cary Grant virtually sleepwalks through this humdrum affair that is basically the Little Red Riding Hood story, with the arrogant, womanizing wolf (Grant) on the prowl for an extremely annoying and anticeptic virgin (Day ... surprise!) You'd have to be a Doris Day fan to find not one minute of this movie fake, bland, or highly irritating.
That Touch of Mink is Great!
If you're a fan of Cary Grant or Doris Day then you're in for a great treat. This is them in their romantic comedy best IMO. The supporting cast takes a normal rom-com and makes it really shine. I enjoyed the whole thing and can hit the button and play the film back right away.
That Touch of Mink
- Glen Ellyn
I'm almost ashamed to say that my favorite scenes were those in the automat, simply because they capture a part of days gone by. Also really enjoyed the scenes in the Yankee dugout. Overall, a very enjoyable movie if you like light-hearted romances. And it's always fun to visualize what it's like to have so much money that jetting off to faraway places is an everyday occurrence.
That Touch of Mink (1962)
- Jay Higgins
Any movie with Cary Grant and Doris Day has to be enjoyable, and indeed it is. Amusing, well written, although it can be a but corny sometimes. The performances make up for that, especially the supporting cast - Gig Young, Audrey Meadows and John Astin. Meadows steals every scene she is in.
A GOOD TIME FOR DORIS DAY FANS

Doris is the film
This is Doris Day's finest performance. Very funny stuff.
WOW! A MUST SEE MOVIE!
I could not stop watching this movie! It had all the right ingredients to a wonderfully made movie. Cary Grant kept me laughing! While Doris Day reminded me of my own values as young woman and rules to dating. Thanks TCM!
