(Wes '39,BW). Bill Elliott, Iris Meredith, Dick Curtis, Dub Taylor, James Craig. Cattle rustlers make mincemeat of the local sheriffs until Wild Bill Saunders (Bill Elliott) arrives on the scene. Wild Bill gives away a lot of knuckle sandwiches and makes the west a tamer place to live.
When the marshal of the lawless town of Prairie Port is shot while trying to break up a saloon brawl, Wild Bill Saunders, a newcomer to town, rides in pursuit of Turkey, the marshal's assailant. In a hand-to-hand fight with Bill, Turkey falls to his death from a cliff, and Bill is hailed as a hero and offered the job of marshal. Soon after, Mary Jenkins is killed when Rawhide and Handy try to rob her, and Bill arrests them. Carp Blaisdale, the town banker and secret leader of the outlaws, urges Rawhide and Handy to submit to their arrest, promising them that he will intimidate the witnesses into refusing to testify. At Judge Bailey's "Law and Order Meeting," Lem Gardner's wife is the only resident brave enough to testify against the outlaws. Mrs. Gardner testifies that her husband was badly beaten the previous night and is unable to leave the house. Bill adjourns court to get Gardner's testimony, but Slim and Handy shoot Gardner before Bill arrives. Pepper, the owner of the cafe, witnesses the murder, and Slim and Handy are about to eliminate her also, when Bill arrives and arrests them. Pepper then follows Shifty, one of the outlaws, to Blaisdale's bank and reports back to Bill. Setting a trap for the outlaws, Bill transfers his prisoners to the cafe cellar. Soon after, Shifty and Rawhide raid the jail to free their friends, and Cannonball, the jailer, leads them to believe that the outlaws have been transferred to the county seat. In a panic, they rush to confer with Blaisdale. Bill, who has been hiding behind a door in Blaisdale's office, emerges to arrest the trio as they prepare to flee. His job thus accomplished, Bill continues his crusade to bring law and order to the West.
