God is mentioned a lot in this movie, but not after someone sneezes.
The Taking of Pelham One Two Three
If made poorly, this hostage thriller could've been dismissed as trash. Matthau is a traffic cop who tries to answer Shaw's demand of one million dollars within an hour or hostages in a taken train will die every minute. To viewers hesitant to the trashy-sounding plot, give it a chance; the films greatest achievement is creating an authentic New York City with it's grittiness and well-developer characters. Engaging, tense, and even funny, this is an exceptional, twisted thriller. I give it a 4/5.
a. great film
A little known gem. Much better than the remake. Matthau is fabulous. You can almost smell the city.

All star cast. Incredible story. Great ending. And it's probably the most accurate depiction of New Yorkers ever!!! With that said... it also might be the most politically incorrect movie of the 50 years. Blacks, Jews, Hispanics, Asians, Gays, Women... you name it... everyone gets roasted in this great caper movie that SHOULD'VE NEVER been re-made.
New York City Subway captured on film!
- Lucille Oka
This movie is by far the most accurate representation of the New York City subways to date. Not the hijacking, but the look, the sound, and the feeling of it. The music is superb and feels like the train and its movements. The cast is so New York and believable. If ever you want to see a perfect film this is it. It has comedy and drama in the perfect amounts. The ending is great with Walter and the music! The movie is so good it is hard to duplicate. There have been several tries but nothing can top this one.

Best Action Movie Theme Music
- Teddy Kaye
The movie is very good. Robert Shaw as the villain is the best. The first two minutes of the movie is the best action movie theme music I've ever heard. From the first three notes, it conveys action and excitement. Credit David Shire who went on to win an Oscar for Norma Rae.
This is one of the best action packed movies I ever saw as a kid. I loved this movie so much. Robert Shaw and Walter Matthau were GREAT in this movie. Highly recommend seeing this!
