a matter of taste indeed.
james garner proved an acting talent could star in movies and television of quality pretty much at the same time.by all account..he respected the crew that worked on his projects. to compare bruce willis to him.. is like comparing urine to dr.pepper..an insult.
Who Knew The Old West Was So Funny?
Somehow, there is nothing ever quite as humorous as a comedic western. All the stereotypes are exposed and become the source of successful humor. James Garner leads the way. But Harry Morgan steals the show. Both James Garner and Harry Morgan are at their very best as two rather overwhelmed witnesses to the craziness of this old west town. This is good entertainment.
Wonderful comedy and a western as well.
Support your local Sheriff is one of my all time favorite movies and as a bonus it's a western. This movie is so enjoyable to watch. I never get tired of watching it. I highly recommend it to everyone who enjoys a great comedy. The entire cast was up for the task what a wonderful film!
Support your Local Sheriff!
- Dashiell Barnes
In a year that saw Butch & Sundance and the Duke wearing an eyepatch, this is another great Western from '69. Garner is hilarious with his droll delivery as a drifter trekking to Australia, great work from Hackett, Brennan & Elam. This film spoofs the traditional Western tale without insulting the stereotypical characters of the genre. Fast-paced & entertaining. I give it a 4.5/5.

Good Clean Fun
- John H. Savage
The synopsis is incorrect. The main character was not a con man who goes straight. The correct is as follows...A man who fancies himself as a pioneer looking for the last frontier(Australia) signs on as sheriff in an out of controll western town that's experiencing a gold rush. It's a greatfilm. A ten!
