Summer Love was a sequel to Universal's 1957 film Rock, Pretty Baby, and shared many of the same cast and crew members. According to a June 10, 1957 Hollywood Reporter news item, the film was shot partially on location in Lake Arrowhead, CA. Although a June 1957 Hollywood Reporter news item adds Kennie Smith, Troy Hilder and Guy Cass to the cast, their appearance in the final film has not been confirmed. Summer Love marked the feature film debut of Judy Meredith and the first time that Jill St. John was billed under that name. St. John's motion picture debut was in the 1953 Paramount release Thunder in the East (see below), but at that time she acted under the name Jill Oppenheim.
