I kept thinking about Ingrid having an affair while she was making this movie and how times have changed since then. As for the movie it was highly over rated because of Ingrid, Rossellini and the director. Big names don't guarantee good movies. It was boring and ended with no ending.
Why even show this movie?
- John Hill
This is one of those movies where around the middle of it you begin to think "Don't I have something better to do with my time than to suffer through any more of this"? Rosselini didn't have a script, he just used notes, and it shows! The story is dreary and hopeless, with no realistic hope of her ever getting off that God forsaken island and it ends with nothing being resolved. Apparently she goes back to her husband according to the synopsis, but someone decided after 81 minutes of this drivel to just end it and be done with it. Sure it starred Ingrid Bergman, but it isn't worth sitting through again even if they decide to show it with the complete ending. I don't understand why TCM would be willing to show this movie.
Seriously. Thinking I am enjoying a classic movie and they show the intentional death of a rabbit by another animal - mongoose? This is created by the director and writers of the film. How horrible. The execution of a life for a movie? Regardless of what went on 'back in those days' supporting the film and it's disregard for life and humane treatment of animals by showing it now is not supportable. I say dump the film & burn all traces of it. If this is what movies are and what TCM advocates - count me out. This is NOT what society needs!
Hope TCM will re-broadcast
I hope TCM will rebroadcast STROMBOLI because of the broadcast difficulties occurring before it's last showing. Maybe we can see the whole film this next broadcast.
I had recorded the movie from TMC and thought that I have insufficient memory on my recorder to capture the ending. I guess it wasn't my recorder. I can't believe that TCM would have truncated the movie. Incredible. Given the two endings to this movie, I wanted to see the distinctions between the American and Italian releases. I guess there is now a third ending. PLEASE give us the chance to see this movie and its most important scene.
I'm terribly disappointed too!
What a let down! I've waited a long time to see this great film and you cut it off at the climax! I have never known TCM to do something like this before. PLEASE PLEASE reschedule!
Finish What You Start

I was thrilled to see that you finally were showing the Ingrid Bergman version of "Stromboli." Unfortunately, you had it timed for 81 minutes and the movie is longer. After watching until the very climactic ending, the movie stopped at 81 minutes. The movie was not finished 81 minutes. Hence I watched the entire movie without seeing the important and dramatic ending. WHAT A LET DOWN! If you cannot show the movie in its entirety, don't bother showing it at all. I was especially disappointed as I just returned from a Mediterranean trip, visited Sicily, and saw the volcano. I was most interested in the story line on the original movie. Please show it again SOON IN ITS ENTIRETY!!!!! Thank you, Mary Ann Breneman
