A lot of things make this movie work - the wonderfully well developed characters, the humorous touches throughout, John Carpenter's excellent direction, a good score, outstanding pacing, a great screenplay and a superb cast. Jeff Bridges is amazing, Charles Martin Smith gives excellent support and Karen Allen is perfectly cast.

My family watched this movie over and over again on HBO when it first came out.Jeff Bridges is a fantastic actor making you really believe he is an alien. There is a bit of romance, enough to make you want more. watch and enjoy this movie.

  • Intergalactic Romance, Why Not!

Responding to our space probe Voyager and Chuck Berry's classic Maybeline, citizens from millions of light years away send Jeff Bridges to see what sort of people generate such great music. Their emmisary is rushed to Earth, but his starship crash lands near the home of Karen Allen. We see through her home movies that her husband has recently died. The alien who does not have a human form finds his was to Allen's home. Now it's up to you to see what may very well be John Carpenter's finest film. I believe this may be the first romantic SciFi film. Carpenter's tale of life intergalactic is both tender and suspensful with government types trying to capture the alien. No explosions, tens of thousands of computer generated killers, none of that, simply the story of two people with nothing in common but their humanity. This is one of those rare films that goes great with red wine and a close companion. Turn off the phone this is a beautiful movie.
