  • Great piece of American history

    • Clint Greer

This is one hard movie to track down. The only known copies available are badly dubbed bootlegs far removed from the master print. It has a great cast of Scott Baio, Maureen McCormick, Ron Palillo, Flip Wilson, Ruth Buzzi, Patrick Swayze in his debut film role, and a host of the best skaters of the day from Venice Beach, who helped to bring rollerskating to the national craze it was in the late 70's, many of whom still skate to this day. It also has a fantastic soundtrack with many top ten hits by Earth, Wind & Fire, Heatwave, The Jacksons, Anita Ward, Eddie Money, Cheap Trick, John Sebastian, Village People, The Emotions, GQ and Dave Mason, the last two actually appear in the film. It is fun, colorful, energetic and really a great time capsule of a moment in history that is sadly never likely to be repeated again. Even Columbia never saw fit to give us this on VHS during the first wave of home video mania in the early 80's. Even a DVD-R manufactured on demand under the recent Columbia Classics series would be more than most welcome for the many participants, fans and admirers of this often talked about, seldom seen curio.

  • Why Skatetown USA should be released on home dvd.

    • Johnny M. Pool
    • 9/22/10

My name is Johnny M. Pool. I am the skater in the opening of the movie on Venice Beach bikepath, and the skater doing the cartwheels on the song Born To Be Alive. I really believe the movie should be released on home dvd. As I currenly still rollerskate at the age of 63, many people have approached me about getting the movie. Skatetown USA was a really great movie to showcase the many many things that people thought could not be done while skating. This explains the real reason why I still display my own skating talents at this point in my life. Appearing in Skatetown USA has really made an impact in the world of rollerskating to show not just the things that can be done, but also the impact that it has on every one and any one who participates in the sport. I hope that whomever makes the decision to release Skatetown USA for home dvd will certainly understand it's impact on all who participates in the sport.

I believe it was a great movie that all the world should be able to purchase. I dont recall its ranking but I would love to add it to my collection of Swayze movies. I have them all except Skatetown,USA and Christmas in Wonderland. As a tribute to Patrick I think you should put it to video. Thank you
