Hello from Vancouver, I recall seeing the movie in the 1960s in Sydney,Australia and would love to refresh it in my mind as soon as I can locate a site to see same again,or else buy a DVD of it to once again enjoy. If anyone can assist my endeavour, please feel free to contact me. Cheers.

I saw this film on it's release, having just read the book, at least I got half way through the book when the film arrived in my local cinema. At the time, I read the message loud and clear, and it was driven home even further when the local Roman Catholic diocese required all of the faith to boycott it as it was seen as anti church, especially RC church. Nowadays it is perceived as 'camp' or laden with homosexual implication, but in 1962 such was hardly on the horizon for most ordinary folk, and so it came down to you were either for the film, ergo you had anti Catholic tendencies or were an atheist of sorts, or for it, and so stayed out of the cinema because the priesthood had banned it. Just been shown on UK TV which probably means the homosexual community will be now glued to the screen since Dirk Bogard made an issue of being one of them some years after his film career was in decline. Sad really because on screen he was a terrific artiste, and although I have no inclination towards such a lifestyle I admit I enjoyed his participation in whatever film I saw him in. In these days of corruption and abusive behaviour in the Roman Catholic church, I could well entertain the idea of a remake with someone like Depp in the Anacleto role, and after his stint as Long John Silver in the recent dark version of Treasure Island, I reckon on Eddy Izzard for the priest. Is there any daring producer director team out there brave enough to do it?

I saw ads on this movie and heard others comment on how they liked this movie. Now nobody ever claims that they watched or even heard about this movie. I just wished that I had the chance to watch it when I was young. I really want it released on DVD to get a chance to see the movie.

I was moved by this movie when I was about 20 years old, but was never sure if I came away with the right message. I've never heard from anybody else who saw the movie. I'd like to see it as a mature viewer.

Intriguing Movie

I found this movie very intriguing. Dirk Bogarde did a good job. The information did not say where this movie was shot, but I suspect it was shot in Spain where I have been several times in my life. That makes it a Spaghetti Western.
