  • Classic Family Film for all ages

I was dragged to the theatre in 1983 by my girlfriend to see this movie and was amazed how the storyline melted my heart. In the 80's it was on HBO constantly; then it seemed to disappear. This was a strong prooduction that would have garnered more attention had it not come out near the time of ET and Rocky III. I believe it garned 'best family film' award from MPAA in 1982. The story is actually much deeper than it appears on the surface, as while it is a comedy, the meeting with Savannah actually saves the two bumbling crooks that you'll come to care for as the picture moves forward. The movie debut of Bridgette Andersen, who proves she is not just another 6 year old; she can really act. Also overlooked is the musical score by Ken Sutherland; the music really matchs the moods and storylines and also tells the story. While the film has a bittersweet feel to it at the end, it does change your perspective on who is the true 'winner' and who is the 'loser' in this one. As Christmas Story has beome to Christmas films, this film should be considered for family films.

Enjoyed this movie so much, it was one of the first movies we rented after getting our first VCR. Especially loved the part of Savannah dancing in her ballerina costumn the kidnappers bought her.

I saw this movie with my Dad when I was a teenager. We laughed so hard! We enjoyed it so much that 20 years later we still talk about it. I want my children to see this movie very much. I am so glad it is finally coming out on dvd.
