The Robe
- Linda

This biblical movie is a must see for every member in your family especially on Easter Sunday. All of the actors did a fabulous job and the music to go with it. Take notice of the sword fight and how realistic it was unlike the computerized way they do things now. I felt like I was really there watching. Even went out and purchased in the dvd and watching it the second and third time was even better. Thank you TCM for making this movie and others like it available for us to watch with our families.

This is my number one movie it was the first movie released in CINEMASCOPE and it had JEAN SIMMONS starring in it. I also liked the music.

Victor Mature's acting
- Ernest Zenone Sr.

I saw "The Robe" when it first came out in September, 1953 at the beautiful FOX theater in Philadelphia, PA. I was 13, but it had a profound effect on me. It took the Bible seriously and didn't make fun of it. But Victor Mature as Demetrius was the best in it as far as acting. I understand that Daryl Zanuck did not want more than one actor up for the best actor award even though Mature deserved it. In fact, Leonard Maltin consder's Mature's acting better than Richard Burton's who was nominated! Mature had no mannerisms and his performance was so natural and powerful. I wish they would show this film in a theater again. It was meant to be seen on a large screen. I don't understand why the film is not released again to theaters. It made over $36 million when it was released which is the equvilent of over $400 million now! Victor Mature has never been given his due as a good actor. I miss him, Ernie Zenone, Sr.

The greatest movie soundtrack EVER

The Robe boasts an excellent cast (especially the supporting cast) and, for my money, the greatest score musical in the history of motion pictures (with the recurring Diana's Theme one of the most beautiful melodies that I've ever heard - ANYWHERE). Add riviting performances by Jay Robinson (as the monsterous Caligula) and yes, Victor Mature (check out his scene in the rain with Richard Burton), and a stunning production, The Robe is easily my favorite film about ancient Rome (and one of my top 10 films of all-time). And while I'm raving about it, The Robe also has the most moving scenes of Christ persecution and death that I've seen in any movie.

I sat in the theatre when I was a kid and marveled at Cinemascope. I love the movie and watched it at home at least a dozen times. AAA for its time

Victor Mature...

The best performance in this film is by Victor Mature. No stranger to biblical movies, he had previously done "Samson and Delilah" (1949).
