  • One of the best noirs

The synopsis of this film's plot may make it sound trite and a little over the top, but it has two things going for it: Ida Lupino and Richard Widmark. Lupino is remarkably modern and unglamorous, but sexy as hell. (And her singing is a rare treat!) Widmark is like a force of nature (no surprise). And, in fact, the great style and pacing of the film completely carry the day, making the story actually very plausible. One of the underrated treasures of the '40s.

  • Widmark is wonderful

Entertaining noir drama, but great fun too, with Richard Widmark a stand out in a cast with great chemistry. Ida Lupino is sultry, sexy, and tough. Wilde and and great Celeste Holm equally good in a crackling story of jealousy and and intrigue. A very good movie!

Roadhouse from 1948 is one of my favorite Ida Lupino movies. She sings "One for my baby and one more for the road & Again. The song, Again, was something like 20 weeks on the hit parade.. I have the CD of Gordon Jenkins's version. I saw many of the movies that Ida Lupino acted in and directed. She also directed and acted in something like 100 TV shows. I would like TCM to bring some more of her movies to the public. In her lifetime, Ida Lupino didn't get the honors that she deserved. Please play The Man I love, Roadhouse, and more of her movies

Wonderfully over the top film noir, excellent performances from all the main stars. Great dialogue, a really fun to watch movie. Richard Widmark stands out.
