The working title of this film was Cattle Kate. An April 1952 Daily Variety news item states that Universal originally wanted Stephen McNally and Charles Drake to co-star with Maureen O'Hara in The Redhead from Wyoming, which was to be produced by William Alland. According to an Hollywood Reporter new item, Hugh O'Brian was cast but left the production for a more prominent role in Universal's Meet Me at the Fair. An additional Hollywood Reporter news item lists Jack Ingram in the cast, but his appearance in the final film has not been confirmed. Modern sources add the following members to the cast: Jack Perrin, Boyd Morgan, Dave Sharpe and Henry Wills.
