Licia, the hedonistic daughter of Brigoli, a wealthy industrialist, falls in love with Mario, a conniving young man. Mario lures her to a brothel, where their lovemaking is disrupted by a police raid and press photographers. In order to suppress the scandal, Licia's family commits her to a mental institution, and her father is forced to pay off Mario, who had arranged the event for purposes of blackmail. Some time later, Licia is released from the asylum and returns home. Although Licia convinces her family that she is happy to be home, she systematically plots to destroy everyone who conspired in sending her away. First, she persuades Mario to secretly film her father making love to his mistress; when Brigoli shows his business associates movies of himself on a holy pilgrimage, the sex footage appears on the screen. Next, Licia seduces her brother-in-law, thereby driving her sister Giovanna to suicide. Finally, learning that her father is planning to call on Mario, Licia drugs Mario's champagne, props him up in bed, points a revolver at his face, and ties the trigger to the doorknob; when Brigoli arrives, the gun goes off, killing Mario. Back home, Licia tells her father that she knows he killed Mario but has decided not to inform the police. To make her revenge complete, Licia tells him that she will devote herself to making the rest of his life a living nightmare.
