  • Pocahontas:Greatly Underrated Disney Classic

Pocahontas isn't a TCM classic, but I consider it a Disney Classic. In fact I categorize it as one of Disney's best movies. Then why all of the bad reviews? Because Disney tried their hand at a romanticized history retelling. The critics said that it wasn't "Historically accurate" but then, was it supposed to be? It was a movie for kids, do you think that they want the boring facts of history? No they want a grand fun tale that they would love to live through. Pocahontas was the first movie I ever saw in theaters, I was just about two years old and the memory of that has stood with me these many years. The color, the music, the animation and the lessons that that movie has and shares are truly a masterpiece. Don't write off Pocahontas as a lie or as one of Disney's worst movies even if it did garner terribly unfair reviews. The movie spoke to the people and did well at the box office because of it, taking in more than 4 times its budget. Pocahontas will always be my favorite Disney movie and I hope that people will come to learn that this greatly underrated Disney classic is a true treasure.
