In a small Mexican village, the local priest berates the peasants for not contributing to church fêtes and pilgrimages. When a small boy sickens, his grieving father steals a pearl from the crown of the statue of Santa Lucia to pay for medicine. The father is caught, but the pearl is lost. His neighbors, however, rally to the father's support, and he is allowed to go free. His wife finds the missing pearl, passed by a swine that had swallowed it. She returns it to the statue, and the village thinks that a miracle has occurred.
