In Paris, when nightclub singer Simone once again turns down Italian Count Paul d'Orlando's offer of marriage, believing it will spoil their love, Paul once again threatens to jump off the Eiffel Tower. On the ledge, he meets seventeen-year-old Mignon de Charelle, who left her cousin Albert at the altar after he insinuated she was not worldly enough. Deciding against suicide, Paul offers to show Mignon Paris in order to incite the jealousy of their respective lovers. After filing a missing persons report with police inspector Dupont, Albert receives a call from Mignon telling him she is with the lover of Simone. When Albert arrives at Simone's nightclub, she makes him her escort for the evening to make Paul jealous. As Simone performs, Mignon makes eyes at Paul until Dupont arrives to arrest him for abducting a minor, and the couple is forced to flee to the chateau of Mignon and Albert's grandmother, Countess de Charelle, in Dijon. The countess, meanwhile, has made scores of hungry peasants forestall partaking of the wedding feast until the bride and groom arrive. When Mignon arrives three hours late with Paul, she feels obliged to tell her grandmother they are married and hides her grandmother's earpiece and glasses while Paul tries to convince her they are not married. Simone and Albert then arrive and, hearing Mignon and Paul are married, pretend they are too. In romantic sympathy for the newlyweds, the countess locks them in their respective rooms, forcing Paul and Albert to meet on the roof and sleep in the tower. The next morning, Paul assures Simone of his love and they sing a duet. When Dupont arrives and exposes the marriage plot, the countess lectures the couples on love, scolding Paul and Simone for using children as pawns in their love game. Paul and Simone drive back to Paris and, during Simone's show, are announced as Count and Countess d'Orlando. In Dijon, Albert and Mignon marry and feast with the countess.
