The working title of this film was The Sheik of Buffalo Butte. According to the Hollywood Reporter review, this film was "in line with [producer] Harry Sherman's new policy of removing Hopalong Cassidy's adventures from their traditional western background." According to a Hollywood Reporter news item, production truck driver George Woosley was given a part in the film, but his appearance in the released film has not been confirmed. Some scenes were shot in Lone Pine, CA.
