I was given this book by my grandmother when I was a teenaged hippy in the sixties. I loved the book then for the wholesome good times of these two young women and wished I had known people like them at the time. The movie, which I saw later, provided me some insight into my grandmother's generation, her sense of humor and romance, and the story became a special bond between my grandmother and me that I will never forget. American women will never know that kind of innocence marked joyful spontaneity again in a culture that had a more mature sense of morality than we do today. I look forward to one day owning a copy of the movie. I just loaned my old copy of the book to my daughter-in-law who has a similar outlook on life as Emily Kimbrough, but lives in a very different world.
