Three con artist try to fool an African militant by selling him a bogus shipment of arms. Things go awry however, when the three have plotted to double-cross each other in trying to take the money.
After successfully fleecing two New York businessmen out of $250,000, three confidence tricksters, Silas, Bob, and Liz, return to London and set up a scheme to sell to a militant African diplomat-revolutionary crates of weapons that will, in fact, contain only scrap metal. The plan backfires, and the revolutionary ends up being shipped back to Africa in one of the sealed crates. Bob blames Silas for bungling the deal and asserts himself as the new brains behind the trio's operations. Relegating Silas to the role of secretary and replacing him as Liz's lover, Bob devises his own plan for swindling Spencer, a wealthy young tycoon, by inducing him to provide the $500,000 investment for a forged bond deal which is to be carried out in Lebanon on behalf of the British government. But while Bob and Liz are planning to doublecross Silas, their senior partner is scheming with Spencer's assistant, Diana, to seize the money. Once in Lebanon, Silas collects the money from the unsuspecting Spencer, then switches bags with Diana before rejoining Bob and Liz in their getaway car. Liz discovers the ruse in time, however, and, when they all meet at a desert ruin, she alerts Bob as to the whereabouts of the money. Drawing Silas and Diana away from the car, Bob grabs the money bag and throws it to Liz, who runs to the car with it. As Bob prepares to jump into the car with her, Liz steps on the gas and drives off alone with all the money. Completely outwitted and stranded in the desert, Bob, Silas, and Diana collapse into helpless laughter.
